Diversity Committee Book Drive

The BPC’s Diversity Committee has partnered with Mrs. Duffy at the Brook Park library and developed a wish list of 100 diversity themed books we hope to add to the library’s collection.

We're working with two local, minority-owned businesses to purchase these books.  If you would like to make a donation or purchase a book for this project follow the steps below.

Afriware Books is a black-owned bookstore located in Maywood.  Their mission is to serve their community by “providing a platform to showcase authors, artists, and advocates who infuse us with a sense of cultural pride”.

  • They have created a special page on their website with books from our wish list  -  https://www.afriwarebooks.com/store/c91/Brook_Park_Council.html.
  • Enter the coupon code BROOKPARK at checkout and ship right to Brook Park (1214 Raymond Ave, La Grange Park, IL 60526).  All shipping choices are free with the coupon code, so choose any method.

Rose Café is located on the south side of Chicago in what is considered a “book desert”.   The owners created this space to provide a place for the community to read, have healthy conversations, empower local voices, and promote local black authors, artists, and entrepreneurs.

  • You can go to their site to donate money towards the purchase of books on the BPC's wishlist.  Donations can be made in any amount - https://www.rosecafe.org/schoolpartners.
  • If you would like to see the list of books that will be purchased with these donations, please contact Brenda Anderson at bka328@yahoo.com.

Thank you so much for your support of this project and these two businesses.  If you have any questions about the project or the process to donate/purchase books, please contact Brenda Anderson at bka328@yahoo.com.
